Frequently Asked Questions
All you need to know about Tara rafting, hiking in Bosnia, river camping & activities in BiH — answered.
—No swimming skills are needed for rafting Tara River. All participants receive professional safety vests that keep you afloat even if you end up in the water. Our licensed skippers ensure your safety throughout the entire Tara rafting experience. Falling out of the boat is rare, and the vest is mandatory equipment on every rafting River Tara trip.
—Yes! Tara rafting is one of the best family activities in Bosnia. For children, we recommend summer months (July–September) when the river level is lower and warmer. Our skippers adapt the rafting tour for young ones, with breaks for swimming and playing. We have all rafting equipment in children's sizes — making it a safe, fun activity for families visiting Bosnia.
—Rafting Tara takes place even in the rain — you're getting wet anyway! Rain often adds to the adventure. We provide neoprene wetsuits and anorak jackets for full protection. Weather is never a reason to cancel your Tara rafting tour in Bosnia.
—For your safety, alcohol before and during the Tara rafting descent is strictly prohibited. The skipper has the right to remove intoxicated persons. The time for relaxing with local Bosnian brandy and music is after returning to camp, where an unforgettable party awaits by the Drina river.
—We offer hiking activities in Bosnia for all fitness levels. Easy trails to Zelengora lakes or Donje Bare are great for recreational hikers. The Maglić summit ascent (2386m) is the most demanding hiking in Bosnia and requires good fitness and hiking boots. Each package description includes the difficulty rating.
—For hiking Bosnia's peaks like Maglić, sturdy hiking boots are mandatory. We recommend layered clothing as mountain weather changes fast. Even in summer, bring a warm hoodie and raincoat. For easier hiking activities in Sutjeska, comfortable trainers may suffice.
—All our hiking in Bosnia tours include off-road transfer in our jeeps to starting positions like Prijevor. Your car stays safe at Auto Camp Drina's parking lot. We handle all hiking logistics so you can focus on enjoying Bosnia's mountains.
—Although trails are marked, we strongly recommend our licensed guides for hiking in Bosnia. They know every stone in Sutjeska, ensure your safety, and share incredible stories about the Perućica primeval forest. Guided hiking activities in Bosnia are both safer and far more rewarding.
—Since the Tara River forms the natural border between Bosnia and Montenegro, and the rafting start point is in Montenegro, valid travel documents are required. EU citizens need a valid passport for this Tara rafting trip. Citizens of Serbia and Bosnia need a national ID card. We register documents with border authorities of both countries before departure.
—For Tara rafting: we provide the complete equipment (wetsuit, boots, vest, helmet). You bring swimwear, a towel, and good vibes. For hiking in Bosnia: sturdy footwear and layered clothing are mandatory. We provide off-road transport to all trailheads from our camp.
—You can, but at your own risk. Our rafting boats on River Tara have waterproof bags, but we advise leaving valuables in the camp safe. Best option: rent a GoPro from us or buy footage from our skippers who film your Tara rafting adventure.
—Hygiene is our priority. All Tara rafting equipment (wetsuits, boots, helmets) is thoroughly washed, disinfected, and dried after every use. You always receive clean, functional gear for your rafting River Tara experience.
—Our river camping in Bosnia offers several options: wooden bungalows (lower ones with shared facilities, upper Comfort/Superior/Premium with private toilet), camper van plots with hookups, and tent spaces right by the Drina. It's the perfect camping Bosnia base for Tara rafting and hiking activities.
—Yes! Auto Camp Drina has a large, free, video-monitored parking area. The entire camping complex — restaurant, bungalows, and riverside areas — is covered by free Wi-Fi. Everything you need for comfortable river camping in Bosnia.
—Of course. Our camp restaurant serves authentic Bosnian cuisine, but we respect all dietary needs. Vegetarian, vegan, or gluten-free — just let us know when booking your camping or Tara rafting package, and our chefs prepare a special meal.
—Yes! Pets are welcome at Auto Camp Drina. Our river camping in Bosnia is spacious with plenty of green area. We only ask that you mind other guests to ensure everyone enjoys their camping Bosnia stay.
—You can book your Tara rafting, hiking in Bosnia, or camping via our website form, email, or phone. A 50€ per person deposit confirms your reservation. Pay the remaining amount upon arrival at Auto Camp Drina. We accept bank transfers to Serbia or BiH accounts.
—Tara rafting reservations can be rescheduled or canceled free of charge up to 3 weeks before the planned date. The deposit is returned or transferred to a new date. Rain is not a valid reason for cancellation — Tara rafting tours run in all weather conditions.
—Of course! Solo travelers, couples, and small groups are always welcome. We organize daily Tara rafting tours and gladly join you with other adventurers. It's a great way to experience activities in Bosnia and make new friends from around Europe.
